Day 22. Monday, December 28th.
We were up at 5:40, although Mira doesn’t work today. I needed to go get an ultrasound done on my liver so that my doctor will write me the script I need to be able to donate blood. (Yeah, really.) As mentioned in earlier posts, I have hemochromatosis (elevated ferritin/storage form of iron) – which is quite dangerous long-term, contributing to increased risk of many chronic diseases. The only way to “treat” it (at least until we figure out a mechanism/driver) is to donate blood.
The sunrise this morning was BEAUTIFUL. Aside from still being up from the night before (I have quite an unhealthy past), I rarely (never) saw sunrises for my first 30+ years. Now, I see the sunrise most days and it will occasionally out-shine the sunsets, which is pretty impressive given where I live.

It was kinda’ cool to see the screen during the ultrasound, and she pointed out my liver, gall bladder, and pancreas. Unfortunately, these tests also come along with high exposure to less than desirable EMF’s, radiation, etc… and so I wouldn’t recommend getting those type of tests unless absolutely necessary. Apparently, there are correlations (that I’m unaware of) between elevated iron and liver damage/conditions/diseases. He should have the results soon, and then I’ll be able to go donate.
We got home a little earlier than I’d anticipated, so I threw the thinly sliced beef roast which had been marinating overnight into the dehydrator. JERKY!

Taco Salad w/ Mixed Greens![/caption]
After that, I had a very enjoyable phone conversation with Kyle Shay, a CHEK Practitioner friend of mine who will be a new contributor on our website. Kyle is extremely knowledgeable, learned from some of the best functional practitioners in the world, and has been a great friend and mentor for many years for me personally. I’m excited to be bringing him into the mix with Rebel Health Tribe!
After eating (too quickly, and while standing up – I know…I’m in trouble) a taco salad… I jumped right into a podcast recording with Dr. Jolene Brighten, whom many of you are probably familiar with. She’s one of my favorite guests to interview, host on webinars, etc… and it was great to have her on the Podcast (launching next month). We talked about high school, brunch, roadkill, hard rock, and John Cusack. (Not in that order. Well, kind of in that order.) The Podcast is gonna’ be a lot of fun, so please keep an eye out for that! Joe had some technical difficulties today, so I was solo as the host this time, but we’ll be together on most of the episodes.
After the podcast, I got a little work done, had a little phone meeting with our Rebel Health Ninja, Jessica regarding an upcoming project or two, and then spent a little bit of time on the phone with my contact from the lab I order tests from. I’m getting all of that squared away, in part, so that we can open up the functional blood testing service on our site! A useful tool that we’ll be providing for people to be able to order their own bloodwork and receive a professional report on the results. (NOT Medical Advise. We are not doctors.)
After that, I got caught up on posts/emails, etc… and now (I’m actually writing the post real-time!) it’s time to go for a jog. I literally haven’t jogged/ran in years, aside from sprints. It’s one of my least favorite things to do. So why am I doing it? Because it’s one of my least favorite things to do, and I want to really mix up my workouts. We’ll see if my body holds up. I’m unbelievably sore from my kettlebell swings a couple days ago. (Like can’t bend over – poor core activation/awareness = overuse of low back)
If I don’t return…. avenge my death!
UPDATE: I’m alive! It rained on our jog, so it was pretty cold and wet… but we did it! Approximately 2 miles. I didn’t time it this time, but was probably around 25 minutes.
Got home, snacked on some jerky, a banana, and a persimmon, then took a shower and tried out my new trimmers on the ‘ole beard! Lookin’ sharp, if I don’t say so myself.
Now time to work for an hour or so and then cook and hang out with Mira! I’ve decided that tomorrow I’m going to start doing time-stamped posts throughout the day… we’ll see how that goes!
It’s now 6:48 – just snagged a couple new Buyer’s Club (our Primal90 members have a discount club where they get discounts on a ton of cool stuff!) partners, which is awesome. We’re around 25 companies right now, and will be growing that to 50+ in 2016! We’re going to make Buyer’s Club access alone more than worth the price of membership ($10-$15/month). Just got an email the other day from a lady who saved over $100 on Christmas gifts with her Buyer’s Club coupons! Hooray saving money!
Now I’m gonna’ cook some carne asada and pork chops that have been marinating since last night!
UPDATE: It’s 8:27. I broiled the carne asada and pork chops (and did the dishes) while Mira made the most amaaaazing homemade organic corn tortillas. SO good. I had two carne asada tacos (just meat and tortilla), and that’s it. I really wasn’t too hungry since I had the post-run snack a few hours ago and might have been breaking into the stash of beef jerky between then and dinner. (Oops.)
Now we’ve got a bunch of ready food in the fridge to make eating/meal prep/dishes a breeze for the next few days! My body is SORE from the swings two days ago and 2 mile run today. I’m trying a new Arnica gel on my sorest spots, and so far it’s definitely helping. Will report back with more info later… but Arnica can be an excellent natural pain killer. It’s the only homeopathic remedy/medicine (don’t know the right word to use) that I have used and seen results with. (I don’t have much experience or knowledge when it comes to homeopathy)
Now I’m going to write up my plan for tomorrow and relax with Mira before bed!
Day 22 in the books! Get ready for new format tomorrow!]]>
