Day 30. Wednesday, January 6th.
Mira started work later than normal today, at 9am. For some reason, I always allow this to really throw my morning into a shambles. We both woke up around 6:30ish, and I started working on her breakfast, lunch, and doing dishes, cleaning the kitchen etc… Because of the relaxed, less rushed, etc… attitude we have on these types of mornings, that took me far longer than it needed to. I started checking email, Facebook, etc… and before I knew it, it was time to start working, she was going to work, and I hadn’t done my morning routine.
Instead of beating myself up, I just made a strong mental note regarding how this happens any time she works at a later time, so that I can be more conscious of it next time around and plan better, stick to the plan, etc…
Due to the fact I’m going to away this weekend for 4 days (off work), my regular amount of things to do becomes condensed and concentrated a little more in the days throughout the week.
Another day, another massive Pacific Storm! Check out these two pictures. They’re taken at approximately the same time of day… on a typical day, and then during today’s storm!

I actually had to keep lights on in our house during the day, in order to be able to see enough to work! We have floor to ceiling windows, so this has never been a problem before. More downpour, more flooding, more mudslides! Luckily, we aren’t really impacted by any of it – but there are areas of our neighborhood under a significant amount of water. Here’s a great shot taken later in the day by my friend Tierney. (yoga instructor in the yoga videos in Module 3 of the Primal90 Program for those of you who are members)

Approximately 4-5 blocks from my place – Sunset![/caption]
I had about 1,000,000 things on my “to-do” list for today, and then the power went out. 3 times. Then our Podcast guest rescheduled (which was actually a blessing). Then our power went out again.
All I could do is laugh.
My lunch, or first meal, of the day was leftover BBQ beef with sauteed red cabbage. The cabbage I sauteed in ghee, with salt, pepper, and a little Dijon mustard. I don’t like it soggy, so I pretty much cook it half of what would be considered fully cooked. This beef is delicious and took me about 5 minutes of actual time to make. Dutch over high heat on the stove, add tallow (grass-fed beef fat), sear on both sides (was a butt roast, I believe). Slice 1 leek, dump on top of seared roast. Dump some pineapple habanero BBQ sauce on top of that. Take Dutch over off the stove, into the oven at 180 degrees for around 12 hours. (I cooked it from around 7pm-7am, I believe) It literally fell apart and I just mixed it all together. Boom!

Yum![/caption]
My “workout” for the day was to do a full Qigong routine/sequence (not sure the right word?) led by Lucas Hausler, LAc, which is available in Module 3 of our Primal90 Program for those who are members! This was exactly what I needed in the middle of a hectic, rather frustrating day. It’s maybe (I forgot to check) 20 minutes in length, and I felt fantastic afterwards.
Lesson: I need to do more Qigong.
In the afternoon, I managed to get my inbox cleared (which is a miracle sometimes), and make a dent in my to-do list. I didn’t get caught up to where I wanted to be, after all the power issues for the first half of the day. That’s out of my control and I had to just let it go. Tomorrow (Thursday), I’m taking Mira to work early in the AM, have a bunch of errands to run, podcast to record, and work to get done! Let’s hope it runs a little smoother!
Some of you may have seen Ocean Beach on the news (made national news) for the flooding, as I’ve gotten several random inquiries to our safety. Yes, people are paddle boarding in the streets not far from our place – but we’re raised off the ground level, and our street hasn’t flooded. We’re safe – but thanks for asking! Unfortunately, the damage across southern California is pretty extensive, between the floods, mudslides, wind damage, etc… and we’re actually supposed to get another round tomorrow morning!
For dinner – I warmed up some leftover pork (cooked with banana, garlic, and Hawaiian salt in the Instant Pot!) and Asian sweet potato.(Forgot picture, sorry!)
Mira got home a little earlier than was planned (maybe 9pm instead of 10pm). I was still cleaning and doing dishes, etc… and we didn’t get to bed until a little after 10pm. That’s really late for us, considering we’re up at 5:30am tomorrow.
Overall, diet was dialed in – Qigong was great. I missed my morning routine, and evening routine. A bit of frustration with things out of my control, but I just spent the power-less time hanging out with Marley, doing a little reading, and doing some work on paper.
I’m really looking forward to this weekend, when we head to Death Valley, CA for 4 days. It’s Mira’s favorite place, and I’m looking forward to the hiking, outdoors, and being disconnected for a bit!
