Day 37. Tuesday, January 12th.
As is always the case when I take days off, a creeping anxiety grips me the morning I go “back to work”. You see, I’m able to take approximately one day off per week. (Which is actually a lot for an entrepreneur, as many can confirm) When I take 3.5 days off for a trip, that’s basically my days off for 3 weeks. Then consider my parents are coming to visit next week (Saturday-Wednesday) and I’m going to be taking more time off. This equates to a ridiculous amount to try and get done on the rest of the days, which is (literally) impossible to balance with self-care, spending time with Mira, cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc…
Since I can’t add 10 extra hours to each day, I’ve learned to just let things go, do the best I can, and continue to strive for maximum efficiency to be able to make the most of the time I do spend on each of those things.
I started out with an abbreviated (1 hour instead of 90 minutes) morning routine, which is what I’m gonna’ have to go with for the next few weeks. That’s okay. It’s still great. After that, around 7:30am, I started getting caught up on the zillion (or so) emails and messages I’d accumulated over the last 4 days. Mira went to Whole Foods to pick up some foods, and we were supposed to record a podcast episode.
The tech gods had other ideas, and some dysfunctional audio equipment led to a reschedule. (With Chef Lance Roll, the Flavor Chef, thebrothery.com) We will now be recording with Chef Lance on Friday.
Due to the fact there still wasn’t anything thawed enough to cook, I had a mix-match lunch of canned sardines (these are some of the best I’ve ever tasted, Matiz Gallego), avocado, Nick’s Sticks, and a can of organic pumpkin. We just ordered about 30 cans of sardines, which we’re going to be incorporating into our diet more. Not the most exciting meal ever, but tasty and very nutritious. It also kept me satiated for a solid 5 or 6 hours.

I’m going to be making a shift to a lower-carb diet to kick-start my stalled weight loss (lost 5-6 lbs. the first week and have stayed pretty much the same since then). I’ll be eating higher carb meals after workouts, but that’s about it for the starchy veggies, rice, etc… I do very well on lowish carb (not extreme, not keto). This is not a blanket endorsement for low-carb diets for everyone.
After lunch, more work! (Sorry, not as exciting as the Death Valley days)
I did take a couple breaks to hang out with Mira, play with/pet/walk Marley, and just let my brain unwind a little bit.
Around 5pm, I did a 30-minute max kettlebell swings workout. 300 swings of a 24kg kettlebell in 30 minutes, with breaks between sets consisting of rebounding!
I’m way less sore today (writing this the next day) than I was the last couple times, and it was a little “easier”, so I’m definitely building up my strength endurance. Next time, I’m aiming for 360 in 30 minutes. Boom!
Mira cooked up some taco meat and Thai shrimp stir fry while I was working out (awesome, thank you!). Then, once I was finished, she handed me some incredibly delicious beef tacos w/ guacamole and mango salsa! Beautiful and tasty! Not pictured was a small bowl of rice that I also had with my tacos! (Carbs after workout)

Dinner![/caption]
I’m very grateful to have a partner who values delicious and healthy food as much (if not more) than I do, and can cook up some awesome stuff! Tacos! (I have a minor (major) obsession with tacos)
After eating, I took a shower, got organized for the week, fed and walked Marley, and then just before bed, our produce CSA box for the week arrived. (It’s been arriving overnight lately – so this was a little surprising) I put everything away, and headed to bed around 10pm.
Not a thrilling or exciting day – no floods, no mountains, no crazy hikes, but it’s days like these, where you stick to the basics, stay focused, eyes on the prize – so to speak, that build consistency.
On to the next!]]>
