salmonella. GM has an intolerance too: they’re intolerant to not increasing profits each and every quarter–the health of their customers is not even an afterthought. And while the class-action suit will likely cost the company millions, it will be a tiny fraction of the profits they make from these products. Don’t get me wrong, I fully agree with the lawsuit, and hope it costs them an ungodly amount of money. However, it’s time for consumers to take some responsibility for their own health. Let’s stop relying on food labels that are often intentionally misleading. This isn’t the first time food manufacturers have been guilty of this exact same issue, and it will not be the last. At least the recall isn’t because the products “may be contaminated with extraneous materials” (i.e. plastic). Maybe it’s a step in the right direction. Maybe. We can no longer claim ignorance when it comes to our food. The information, and the truth, are readily available, unlike generations before us. Let’s stop pretending that just because the front of the box claims it “is all natural,” or “may reduce heart disease,” or is “gluten free,” that we don’t have the responsibility to call bullshit. Perhaps if food manufacturers started labeling their foods honestly we could begin trusting them.
