Remember the movie, There’s Something About Mary? The main character, played by Cameron Diaz, was adored by everyone. That “something” about her was that she was always vibrating on a higher frequency. Think- lots of laughter, smiling, confidence, fun to be around, thoughtful, positive attitude, etc.
To some, this may sound like a bit of a woo woo topic, but your vibration and these practices can be what stands between depression and happiness.
It has been proven by scientific studies and experiments that our thoughts send out electrical impulses, which vibrate at a higher or lower frequency, to our bodies, causing us to either put our shoes on and go for a walk, turn some music on and sing along, pick up a fork and eat those roasted veggies or that slice of cake, smile, frown, slump, sit, neglect the chores, do the chores, call that friend or not call them, react in anger and stew at that slow driver in front of you or smile at the driver and continue listening to your favorite podcast or song, and so on and so forth.
So raising your vibration is really as simple as leaning towards what feels good and lighter over what feels heavy and darker. And the neat thing about it is that we attract more goodness into our life when we BE goodness to ourselves and others.
Here are my top 7 ways I raised, and continue to raise, my vibration that brought me out of a deep depression where I saw no hope in sight and didn’t want to live anymore. It’s a daily practice that continuously blesses my life and those around me.
7 Ways to Raise Your Vibration
It is essential that each day is begun with at least ten minutes of meditation, the longer the better. Thirty minutes is my sweet spot. No distractions from emails or social media. This gets your mind, emotions, and Central Nervous System primed for the day.
Meditation looks different for everyone.
There are many types and ways to meditate. It is best to explore them and find what resonates with you. I like to start mine with reading a short passage from a spiritual or philosophical text or book.
I also love guided meditations that are specific to a current goal. For example, cultivate inner peace, attract wealth, gain self-confidence, weight loss, create success, stop procrastinating, release guilt, relieve anxiety, attract love, gratitude, and so on.
Whatever aspect of life you’d like to improve upon, there’s a guided meditation out there for you that can begin the process of aligning your thoughts and actions with what you want.
If strapped for time, meditation can be as simple as sitting quietly, thinking of the things you’re grateful for, focusing on your intentions for the day, and saying a prayer asking for guidance on the tasks or obstacles at hand.
2. Spend Lots and Lots of Time Outdoors
The most important time of day to get outside is early morning.
Before modern technology, humans spent thousands of years with only natural light sources, from the sun, firelight, and moonlight. This allowed for perfect circadian rhythms, which means perfect hormonal functions, regular and deep sleep patterns, good memory, balanced neurotransmitters, healthy sex drives, more physical energy, and an overall sense of wellbeing.
To get the most vibrational boost outdoors, be out there with shoes off, no sunglasses blocking natural light from entering your suprachiasmatic nucleus, located in the brain, which regulates your hormones, and depends on the correct light signals entering your retinas.
Go for walks while listening to podcasts, audiobooks, guided walking meditations (yep, they even have those kinda meditations), or your favorite uplifting or soothing music.
Or simply listen to the sounds of Nature. Go for walks with friends or your pets.
Walk, walk, walk. Sitting is considered the new smoking. We’ve become entirely too sedentary in our modern society, which leads to illnesses, which means vibrating at a lower frequency.
Ditch the conventional advice that tells you the sun causes cancer. The dose makes the toxin depending on your skin type, the season, and your latitude. You know you feel better in the sun, so don’t hide from it. Be sensible and don’t allow yourself to burn.
Watch as many sunrises and sunsets as you can. Take pictures of them and inspire your friends to do the same.
3. Connect With Your Inner Child
One year ago, my amazing coach Jenna Phillips Ballard (you’ll want to follow her on Facebook and Instagram) gave me an assignment, “to write an empowerment letter to my inner child, to celebrate all of her unique magic, ensure her that she is safe to play, and be OUTRAGEOUS.”
My life has become so full of fun, joy, magic, and sparkles since. Now, how is that for vibrating at a higher frequency?
So go connect with yours the same way, write him or her a letter, and go play and have FUN.
4. Spend Time With Friends
The greatest vibrational boost in this area is spending time with your friends face to face.
The next best is actually having conversations on the phone or on video chat.
You know this makes you feel better than just sending them text messages or worse, losing touch with them. These phone and face to face interactions with our friends is becoming a lost art in this digital age.
Go make plans with your friends. Make them now. Create lasting memories and boost your health in the process. Isolation is one of the leading causes of depression.

5. Raise Your Self-Esteem
According to Dr. Nathaniel Branden, author of The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem (get that book too), how we feel about ourselves crucially affects virtually every aspect of our lives, from the way we function at work, in love, in sex, to the way we operate as parents, to how high in life we are likely to rise.
Read that last part again slowly- “how high in life we are likely to rise.”
Low Self-Esteem = feelings of inadequacy, insecurity, self-doubt, guilt, a vague sense of “I am not good enough” for that career, that romantic partner, to attend an event like that, to join that club, etc.
High Self- Esteem = the conviction that we are competent to live and worthy of happiness. Therefore we face life and all its ups and downs with greater confidence, benevolence, and optimism. We have a mind that trusts itself. We have a serenity of spirit. We know our life is important and we fight for our highest possibilities.
Some ways to begin raising your self-esteem include the practices in this article, living consciously, liberating yourself from guilt, living responsibly, living authentically, nurturing the self-esteem of others, and reading Nathaniel Branden’s book, “How To Raise Your Self-Esteem.”
6. Keep Your Home & Car Clean and Tidy
Simply starting here by cleaning out your car and home of dirt and clutter within the next few days raises your vibration tremendously.
You know that feeling you get when you’ve just dusted the surfaces in a room and vacuumed or swept your floors. You feel lighter, accomplished. The room has a better energy and feel to it. Feng Shui calls this energy Qi, meaning “life force” or “energy flow.”
Make your bed as soon as you get out of it in the mornings. This is one of my favorite ways to stay tidy. A made bed makes a powerful and positive difference in your bedroom. You enjoy walking into it. You enjoy getting into bed.
Learning some basic Feng Shui techniques for your bedroom can greatly improve the quality of your sleep, which gives you much more energy to go through your day, no matter what you encounter.
Think- clean and tidy and your Qi will flow harmoniously and higher.
7. Listen to Uplifting and Beautiful Music
Music is everything. Music is life.
Whenever I’m feeling tired, sad, or discouraged, music is my favorite way to instantly feel better. I have playlists for every mood or situation- Morning Dance, Soothing Classical, Happy Tunes, Country, Rap, 80s, Booty Shakin’, Workout, Hair Metal Bands, Subliminals with Brain Waves, Love Songs, and Sing Alongs.
Some sounds have healing frequencies. Trying out some subliminals and solfeggio frequencies through your music app with headphones boosts brain waves and subconscious activity in the mind.
Tibetan singing bowls, a great addition to your meditation space, which I like to call my Sacred Space, produce sounds which invoke a deep state of relaxation.
In closing, by incorporating these practices into your life you will feel better, have more joy and fun, and love yourself, others, and this planet more than ever. You’ll feel more freedom and fear less. You will vibrate higher.
