Infections, Overgrowth, and Dysbiosis
In this episode, we discuss what can go wrong in regards to microbiome health and balance. Topics such as SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth), Candida/yeast/fungus, parasites, and general dysbiosis (wrong bugs) will be discussed. How do these things happen, what are some common misconceptions, and what are some keys to healing the gut and re-balancing one’s flora? All of these topics, and more, will be discussed here!
Microbiome & Autoimmunity
Our microbiome plays a massive role in the training, stimulation, and regulation of our immune system. The more we learn about the functions of healthy gut microbes, we realized that a healthy microbiome is absolutely essential to a healthy, optimally-functioning immune system. In this episode, we discuss all the various ways that microorganisms within our gut are linked to various autoimmune conditions and other immune system dysfunctions.
The Gut-Brain Connection
In functional/natural medicine circles, the gut is often referred to as the “second brain”. In reality, it may actually be the “first brain”! The gut-brain connection is discussed at length in this episode. From neurotransmitters to cravings, our gut plays a massive role in our mental and emotional health. Learn how to connect the dots and improve your mood, energy levels, and cognitive function from this discussion!
Probiotics & Miscellaneous Microbiome
We have received a number of questions pertaining to probiotic foods, supplemental probiotics, and the research to support the use of either/both. In this mixer, we cover those topics, and much more. A brief overview of inoculation, reasons why some people don’t do well with fermented foods or conventional probiotics, what the research and physiology shows in that regard, and anything else probiotic-related.
Microbiome, Weight Loss, Metabolism, and Blood Sugar
An emerging topic in the functional medicine/natural health world, microbiome in relation to weight loss and metabolism, is the subject here. It’s a good thing you can pause these videos – because you’ll want to take a bunch of notes here! Kiran drops some serious knowledge pertaining to the influence our microbiome and overall gut health have over our metabolism, ability to regulate blood sugar, various hormones, and other factors which play a role in determining our body composition.
Microbiome, Fertility, Pregnancy, Birth, and Nursing
There is a ton of emerging research revolving around babies and microbiome, so we decided to sit down and get to the research. Questions we’ll discuss here include: Is the womb sterile? How do babies get inoculated with healthy flora? Does microbiome play a role in fertility? What impact does a c-section birth have on a baby’s microbiome? We also discuss the amazing benefits and functions of human breastmilk, suggestions for fostering a healthy microbiome in infants, and much more!
Microbiome as Nutrient Factory
In this incredibly fascinating episode, Kiran discusses the many vitamins, nutrients, enzymes, and hormones the microbiome either produces, regulates, or plays some role in. We also discuss the many routes of communication between the microbiome and the brain. Amazing!
